NILFS is Newly Implemented Log Structured File System. It provides implicit snapshot of the file system but does not provide
any mechanism to handle those snap shots. Also the snap shot need to explicitly stated by the user. The NILFS Snapshot manager
i.e. nSNAPBACK provides a user interface to effectively manage and take the snapshot of the file system.
Product Details
Benefits and Features
Fast Snapshot View The snapshot can be identified by a tag that consist of the name and time
at which the snapshot was taken. Using the name of the tag or the time of the tag we can restore the system to its previous
state.
User Defined and Computer Defined Tag Name We can give user defined name to a tag that we have snapshotted
in accordance to the state or can be generated by using a appropriate prefix (in case of snapshotting at fixed interval).
Fixed Interval Snapshot We can set a interval or the time at which in a day we have to take a snapshot of the
file system.
Comparator View
This mechanism allows the user to compare a given file in different time domain
and check the content of it in past or as that of the present.
Utilization View
This feature of n Store
enables the user to view the utilization of the file in terms of the changes made to it and the amount of disk space utilized.

We are final year Computer Engineering students studying at Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering, affiliated to the University
of Pune (UoP) ,India. We had been searching for system projects since July for a good project for our graduation. After doing
lot of research on various topics such as Data Grids, Grid Computing, Distributed File Systems etc. We came across a topic
called as a Log Structured File System. We went on learn the basic concepts of LFS, which included case studies of LinLogFS
and our published papers. Finally we got to NILFS, and decided to do the ‘Snapshot Management Mechanism’ for NILFS.
